Moroccan Officials Probe Reports of Youth Lured and Detained by Criminal Gang in Thailand

The detention of dozens of young Moroccans in difficult conditions in Thailand is a concern for Fatima Tamni, a deputy of the Democratic Left Federation (FGD) party. She is asking Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, about the measures taken by his department to address this issue.

Dozens of young Moroccans have been kidnapped by a gang in Thailand, most of whom were of Chinese nationality. From the explanations of the brother of a victim contacted by the site Al3omk.com, it appears that the young Moroccans were attracted by gang members with tempting promises of employment in e-commerce in Thailand, with the provision of all the necessary facilities to get there. He said that the families of the victims who express concerns have filed complaints with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad for urgent intervention to end their suffering and bring them back to the country.

In a question addressed to the head of Moroccan diplomacy, Fatima Tamni, a deputy of the Democratic Left Federation party, specifies that these young people have been kidnapped and detained in residential complexes on the border with Myanmar, and that they are forced to work in electronic fraud networks in inhumane conditions daily for at least 17 hours in front of computers, deprived of adequate rest and sleep. In addition, they are subjected to acts of torture by militias when they try to contact their families, the elected official said. She asks Nasser Bourita to reveal the measures taken by the Moroccan government to address this issue. She especially wants to know if there has been communication with the Thai and Burmese authorities to take the necessary measures to save these young people from their ordeal.
