Families Protest Inaction on Moroccan Hostages in Myanmar Trafficking Scheme

Faced with the inaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad and the Moroccan embassy, the families of the victims of torture in Myanmar (Burma) announce the organization of a sit-in in front of Nasser Bourita’s department and the embassy of the People’s Republic of China, and the holding of a press conference in Rabat at the headquarters of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights.
The families of the victims of human trafficking in Burma are angry with the authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad. Gathered within a committee, they denounce the absence of a concrete reaction on their part since the release of the first Moroccan survivor on February 9, 2024, and the receipt of the first complaint on January 19, 2024, reports the site Al3omk. They express "their incomprehension in the face of the incomprehensible silence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, and the negative reaction and unjustified indifference of the Moroccan embassy in Thailand towards the file despite the repeated complaints and calls from the families". Similarly, they hold the People’s Republic of China responsible for what is happening, "because the gangs holding their children and exploiting them in online scams are all of Chinese nationality and call on them to intervene urgently to free the detained Moroccans".
The committee of the families of the victims of human trafficking in Burma has also denied the statements of a deputy concerning the reception by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Moroccan embassy of the families. However, it welcomed the positive reaction of human rights organizations to the case and calls on them to support it in this ordeal.
Faced with the situation, the families of the Moroccan detainees have called on the Moroccan government to react effectively to the case of the detainees in Burma, which affects the lives of Moroccan citizens and the image of Morocco and Moroccans. They have also announced the organization of a sit-in in front of Nasser Bourita’s department and the embassy of the People’s Republic of China, and the holding of a press conference in Rabat at the headquarters of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights.
