Moroccan Star Selim Amallah Aims to Replicate CAN Success with Standard Liège

After his performances at the CAN, Moroccan international Selim Amallah intends to show the same determination with Standard de Liège, traveling to Genk this Sunday as part of the 27th matchday of the Belgian championship.

According to Luka Elsner, the Standard coach, even if the Moroccan player is nursing "little aches and pains," he is in great shape, crowned with his performances, including two goals scored at the Africa Cup of Nations. The attacking midfielder hopes to shine also with Standard: "I’m going to try to reproduce at Standard what I did at the CAN with Morocco. I was tired when I came back from the tournament but today I have recovered well and I will give the best of myself for my team," reports RTBF.

In Cameroon, Selim Amallah was one of the players who stood out with a certain ease on the pitch. "I had quite a few injuries during the season. And then the system is different with Morocco. I play in a free midfield, whether defensively or offensively, I can go down, I can play higher up. But there are also world-class players alongside me with Morocco, it’s normal that it’s easier. When you play in a team with better players, you’re good too. It’s up to me to pull Standard up after this experience at the CAN," he stressed.

Selim Amallah plans to lead his team into the top 8: "We’re going to play full out. We have to focus on the top 8 that’s ahead of us. We have to go get it, even if we know it will be complicated. We’ll do everything to get that spot to reach the playoffs," he says.

Currently, Standard is 13th with a 6-point deficit on 8th-placed Genk. Selim Amallah and his teammates need a win this Sunday. "Genk is a direct competitor for the TOP 8 so we’ll have to go win there. We are Standard de Liège and we have already proven that we can go win there, it’s up to us to take up this challenge," insists the Atlas Lion.
