Moroccan Singer Dounia Batma Arrested to Serve Prison Sentence in ’Hamza Mon Bébé’ Case

Dounia Batma was reportedly arrested on Wednesday by the judicial police while she was in Casablanca. The Moroccan singer must serve a prison sentence as part of the "Hamza Mon Bébé" case.
Dounia Batma was arrested after the public prosecutor’s office at the Court of Cassation wrote to the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Marrakech, to execute the prison sentence handed down against her.
The singer must serve a one-year prison sentence. The Court of Cassation in Rabat had rejected the appeal filed by Dounia Batma, confirming a decision made in 2020 by the court of first instance which had sentenced her to 8 months in prison. Subsequently, the Court of Appeal increased the sentence by adding 4 months of imprisonment.
After the rejection of her appeal to the Court of Cassation, the singer had launched an appeal to King Mohammed VI for a pardon.
