Moroccan Melons Flood Spanish Market
Spain shattered its historical record for melon imports in 2025. With nearly 114 million kilos purchased from abroad, the Spanish market confirms strong domestic demand, driven notably by key suppliers like Morocco.
For the third consecutive year, Spanish purchases of this fruit have surpassed the 100 million kilo mark. In 2025, the total volume reached exactly 113.95 million kilos, according to data relayed by specialized media Hortoinfo. This unprecedented quantity for the country generated total spending of 94.09 million euros, setting the average price at 0.83 euros per kilo. Over fifteen years, imported melon volumes have thus surged by 59.20%.

On the supplier podium, Morocco takes third place and represents 10.33% of Spain’s supplies. Moroccan operators shipped 11.77 million kilos in 2025, billed at an average of 0.98 euros per kilo, for a total value of 11.52 million euros. This performance marks an impressive progression of 121.31% in Moroccan deliveries over fifteen years. The kingdom ranks behind Senegal, second with 15.36% of shares, and Brazil, the undisputed leader dominating 65.64% of the market.

Within the country, the arrival of these goods concentrates massively in three geographic zones that absorb nearly 64% of flows. Barcelona stands out as the leading importing province, capturing 24.79% of volumes for an investment of 22.77 million euros. Murcia follows closely by centralizing 23.09% of receipts, just ahead of Valencia and its 16.03%. The provinces of Lleida and Almería complete this ranking of main entry points for melons into Spanish territory.
