+248% of imports: How Moroccan cucumbers have literally invaded Spain in 10 years

In 2025, Spanish imports of cucumbers reached new heights, driven by the overwhelming dominance of Moroccan production. The Kingdom now supplies more than seven out of ten cucumbers purchased by its Iberian neighbor.

Spain imported 25,440 tons of cucumbers in 2025, for a total value of 30.9 million euros. According to La Razón, this volume marks an explosion of 248% compared to 2016. Morocco has established itself as the undisputed leader with 18,240 tons shipped, capturing a market share of 71.71%. In a decade, Moroccan sales to the peninsula have soared by 215.6% in volume.

Financially, purchases of Moroccan products cost Spain 21.1 million euros, with an average price of 1.16 euros per kilo. This hegemony relegates other European suppliers far behind. Germany occupies second place with 11.08% of the shares, followed by Portugal (9.11%) and the Netherlands (2.10%). France completes this ranking with only 1.86% of the total volume imported last year.

Paradoxically, it is the Spanish agricultural provinces that receive the bulk of these flows. Almería is the main destination, absorbing 50.52% of total imports, followed by Granada (20.65%) and Valencia (7.16%). This dynamic illustrates the growing dependence of the Iberian sector on the Moroccan neighbor, whose export value to Spain has increased by more than 313% in just ten years.
