Peppers: Morocco crushes the competition in the Spanish market

In ten years, Morocco has seen a significant increase in its pepper exports to Spain. The kingdom surpasses Portugal and France.
Full score for Moroccan peppers in Spain. Morocco sold 101.11 million kilos in a single year, which represents 92.36% of Spanish pepper imports alone. Compared to 2015 when volumes reached 33.71 million kilos, this performance represents a dizzying growth of 199.9%. This dynamic is part of a solid upward trend over the past decade, according to a report from the specialized website Hortoinfo, based on data from the ICEX Estacom database.
These exports earned Morocco 121.46 million euros in 2024, with a stable average price of 1.20 euros per kg. With this performance, Morocco is far ahead of the other suppliers. Despite a 492.7% increase, Portugal only exported 2.84 million kilos in 2024. It is followed by France with 2.08 million kilos, a slight increase compared to 2015.
Spanish pepper exports have also increased. They generated a record turnover of 1.66 billion euros in 2024, an increase of nearly 800 million euros compared to 2015. The average export price went from 1.25 euros to 1.97 euros per kilo in a decade.
With 34.93% of the volumes in 2024, or 295.02 million kilos, compared to 228.64 million in 2015, an increase of 29.03%, Germany remains by far the largest export market for Spanish peppers. In terms of value, these exports reached 596.7 million euros, at an average price of 2.02 euros per kilo. France, the second customer, has increased its imports by 10.06% since 2015. In 2024, it imported 111.78 million kilos of Spanish peppers, for a value of 206.33 million euros, at an average price of 1.85 euros per kilo.
