Marrakech Tourism Rebounds as Hotels See Surge in Spring Bookings

With the resumption of flights and the implementation of support mechanisms, tourism activity is gradually resuming in Marrakech. Some hotels are already recording bookings for the months of March and April.

The month of April is usually very lively in Marrakech due to MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events) tourism and the organization of a large number of events that attract many tourists. This year, it coincides with the Easter holidays in France scheduled from March 16 to May 9 according to the zones, reports L’Économiste.

In this period of health crisis where the organization of events and gatherings of more than 100 people are prohibited and nightclubs are still closed, professionals in the sector in Marrakech, a tourist city par excellence, are betting more on family and golf tourism from all promising markets such as Israel.

The Moroccan destination, and particularly Marrakech and its regions, is highly sought after by Israeli tourists and businessmen since the normalization of relations and the launch of direct flights between the two countries. Since the resumption of flights on February 7, the El Al company has resumed its flights from the David Ben Gurion airport to Marrakech/Menara and Royal Air Maroc (RAM) plans a direct flight between Tel Aviv and Casablanca from March 13.

The Ministry of Tourism expects 300,000 tourists from Israel and other communities of the Jewish diaspora in the world this year. Marrakech professionals are working to capture this market. Thus, tour operators are organizing to concoct attractive programs for travelers. For their part, guides are learning Hebrew and many kosher restaurants have reopened.
