Marrakech Event Industry Urges Lifting of COVID Restrictions to Revive Tourism

A few weeks after the reopening of air borders, event professionals in Marrakech are asking to allow large events.
For two years, the ochre city has been waiting for these major events. This segment of tourism in Marrakech has remained inactive since the beginning of the health crisis. Tired, the professionals are asking to lift the health restrictions, as they plan to go looking for Mice (Meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions) clients for the coming months, reports l’Économiste.
Two years of inactivity will have had an impact on the choices of decision-makers, all the more so as competing destinations have positioned themselves on the segment, they said, stressing that the city must reconquer the markets and restore confidence to international promoters.
However, some of them hope for a quick recovery. This is the case of the Abta (Association of British Travel Agents) which wishes to organize its assemblies next October. Its president was actually on a reconnaissance mission and recalled that the association is still interested in Marrakech as a host city for its assemblies, the newspaper reports.
For Mustapha Amalik, a hotelier and expert in tourism and events, "it takes time to reprogram the destination in the calendars with a precise calendar and visibility to prepare the September and October seasons".
