Morocco’s Tourist Guides Learn Hebrew as Israel Tourism Surge Expected

In Morocco, many guides are interested in learning Hebrew. The announcement of the arrival of some 1.5 million tourists from Israel is behind this enthusiasm.
In an interview with Assahra Al Maghribia, Hassan Janah, president of the National Federation of Tourist Guides in Morocco, said that in Marrakech, Fez, Essaouira, Rabat, Tangier or Tetouan, many tourist guides are interested in learning Hebrew. According to his explanations, they are taking certified training courses to deepen their knowledge of Jewish culture and heritage.
Morocco hopes to welcome around 1.5 million tourists from Israel. In this sense, the federation has meanwhile launched, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, the Mimouna association and the ISITH of Tangier, a Hebrew language training program for around 140 tourist guides. The kingdom thus intends to meet the challenge of competitiveness to attract more Jews to Morocco and accompany the arrival of tourists from Israel and other countries.
"The training workshops dedicated to the Hebrew language are supervised by university professors with extensive experience in the field," said Hassan Janah, noting "no difficulty in learning it". He assures that the tourist guides learn this language with ease, "especially since a large part of them come from language training".
