Marrakech Best Cultural City Africa Ranking 2025

Marrakech secures twelfth place in the global ranking of best cultural cities, surpassing Cairo. According to a vast international survey, the Moroccan city has now established itself as the undisputed leader of culture in North Africa.

Marrakech outshines its regional rivals. In the latest global rankings published by Time Out magazine, which surveyed 24,000 residents across 150 cities, the city claims twelfth position. It thus surpasses the Egyptian capital, becoming the most attractive metropolis in the region for art lovers thanks to its ability to transform global influences.

This attractiveness rests on an ever-expanding events calendar. The 1-54 African art fair grows each year and now extends beyond La Mamounia’s halls to invest in galleries like Le MAP and Comptoir des Mines, as well as foundations like MACAAL. Furthermore, cultural riads such as El Fenn or IZZA organize salons and exhibitions throughout the year, while the Yves St Laurent Museum hosts concerts and conferences.

Nearly 63% of respondents rate the cultural offering as good or excellent, and 64% believe it remains affordable. While concerts and musical sessions at Jajjah comptoir prove particularly accessible, it is indeed the museums that represent the destination’s strong point according to local residents.

Cairo occupies sixteenth place in this international ranking. The Egyptian capital benefits from strong exposure since the complete public opening of its Grand Egyptian Museum in November 2025. Despite spectacular events such as electronic music concerts before the Pyramids of Giza or open-air exhibitions of Art of Egypt, the city achieves a satisfaction score of 62% among its residents, falling short of its competitor.
