Marrakech Authorities Shut Down 185 Snack Bars in Major Health Crackdown

The authorities in Marrakech have carried out a large-scale control operation of snack bars, closing nearly 200 establishments to preserve the health of Marrakechis and tourists.
Out of the 905 snack bars visited by the specialized technical commissions of the Marrakech prefecture, 185 were closed and 9 were prosecuted in court, reports the website Rue20. This operation is part of the efforts of the local authorities to strengthen the control of these establishments, in accordance with the directives of the wilaya.
The commissions covered almost all the districts of the ochre city, controlling 149 snack bars in Al Hassani, 124 in Jemaa El Fna square, 113 in Mhamid and 519 in the Mechouar-Kasbah, Tassoultante, Mohammadi, Hivernage, Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, Annakhil, Tameslohte, Menara and Harbil neighborhoods.
Farid Chourak, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region and governor of the Marrakech prefecture, stressed the need to strengthen the controls of snack bars and other catering establishments in order to preserve the health of Marrakechis and tourists, following the many cases of food poisoning recorded in the city.
