Marrakech Hotels Defy Closure Orders, Continue Operating Despite Crackdown

Ten of the 31 non-compliant tourist accommodation establishments ordered to close for one to two months continue to open their doors, thus trampling on the decision of Farid Chourak, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region and governor of the ochre city prefecture.
These riads continue to offer their services as usual, thus openly defying the decisions of the Wali of the region. This is the finding made by the security services of the fifth police district, on Friday night, who drew up official reports, pending the taking of necessary measures against the establishments concerned, reports Kech24.

Last week, Farid Chourak, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region and governor of the prefecture of Marrakech, had ordered the closure of 31 accommodation units, including hotels and guest houses, following control operations carried out by mixed commissions including representatives of local authorities, the urban commune and the national security, to verify the extent to which the establishments respect the legislative texts governing their activities.
Multiple infractions were noted, including non-compliance with the closing hours set by law, nuisance to local residents, non-compliance with public tranquility, as well as other immoral practices that undermine the reputation of the city and have a negative impact on the tourism sector.
