Marrakech Airport Struggles with Summer Tourist Surge

The Marrakech-Menara International Airport has been congested for a few days due to domestic and foreign tourists as well as Moroccans living abroad who are flocking to the kingdom to spend their summer holidays.
The competent authorities are trying to deal with the urgent situation to manage the flow of passengers arriving at Menara airport and take all necessary measures to avoid congestion of the airport platform during the summer (July and August), a period during which Marrakech welcomes many visitors from all over the world.
In other words, it is urgent to accelerate the implementation of the extension work on this airport. Travelers, for their part, wish for an increase in the size of the terminal, as well as the expansion of the platform to accommodate a large number of planes and passengers during the summer season.
Farid Chourak, the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region and Governor of the prefecture of Marrakech, had announced, during the ordinary session of the regional tourism council, the imminent start of the construction of a new airport dedicated to low-cost flights, on a site located 30 km from the ochre city.
