Morocco Plans $1 Billion International Airport Near Marrakech to Boost Tourism

The Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Farid Chourak, announced the construction of a new international airport 25 km from Marrakech. This project aims to respond to the growth of air traffic and to decongest the current Marrakech-Menara airport.
The new airport will be built on an area of 2,000 hectares and will include ultra-modern facilities. Its construction will be entrusted to a private company and its financing will be ensured by a public-private partnership.
The total cost of the project is estimated at 10 billion dirhams. The work should start soon and be completed in 2030, the year of the organization of the World Cup by Morocco.
This new airport will strengthen the attractiveness of the country’s leading tourist region.
