Marrakech Plans New International Airport Ahead of 2030 World Cup

A new international airport should soon be built in the city of Marrakech. The Marrakech-Menara airport, for its part, will be dedicated to domestic flights and private jets, we learn.
The information is reported by the Rue20 website, which specifies that the new international airport of Marrakech will be built in the Sidi Zouine area, next to the Marrakech-Agadir highway, not far from the road leading to the city of Chichaoua. The project will be carried out in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will organize alongside Spain and Portugal, it is pointed out.
The new Marrakech airport will have a capacity of 14 million passengers per year, much larger than that of Marrakech-Menara, which is struggling to contain the significant flow of tourists visiting the ochre city, considered one of the flagship tourist cities of the kingdom.
The future airport will also be connected to the high-speed train (TGV) network. In this perspective, two stations will be built in the city: one in front of the Grand Stadium of Marrakech and the other at the international airport of Marrakech, next to the Marrakech-Agadir highway.
The Director General of the National Airports Office (ONDA), Adil Fakir, presented a few weeks ago the strategic plan "Airports 2030" aimed at modernizing airport infrastructure and bringing it up to international standards, improving the customer experience and initiating the profound transformation of the Office.
