Marrakech Authorities Shut Down 31 Hotels for Regulatory Violations

Thirty-one hotel establishments in Marrakech have been forced to close their doors for a period of three months. This radical decision, taken by the wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Farid Chourak, follows numerous breaches of the regulations in force.
Mixed commissions, composed of representatives of the local authorities and the police, carried out inspections in several hotels and guest houses in the ochre city. These checks revealed "flagrant" violations according to the Wilaya of Marrakech, ranging from non-compliance with closing hours to the illegal sale of alcohol, as well as noise disturbances for residents and behaviors deemed inappropriate.
The managers of these establishments had already received warnings, without modifying their practices, according to the press release. Faced with this situation, the wali therefore decided to take action, emphasizing the need to preserve the tranquility of the inhabitants and the tourist image of Marrakech.
Farid Chourak also warned that any recurrence would result in the permanent closure of the establishments concerned, accompanied by legal proceedings. In the meantime, the owners are required to continue paying the salaries of their employees for the entire duration of the closure.
