Macron Offers Condolences as World Mourns 5-Year-Old Rayan’s Tragic Well Accident in Morocco

The French president was moved by the death of Rayan, the 5-year-old child who accidentally fell into a dry well in Chefchaouen, near his home. Through a message on Facebook, Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to the family of the little boy, as well as to the Moroccan people.
"Tonight, I want to tell the family of little Rayan and the Moroccan people that we share their grief," the French president wrote on Facebook. A message welcomed by Internet users, who appreciated Emmanuel Macron’s solidarity with the family of the young boy, whose rescue lasted five days.
Last Tuesday, Rayan fell into a dry and deep well and found himself trapped at a depth of about 32 meters. It was only on Saturday evening that the boy was extracted from the well, after a rescue operation for which large resources were mobilized.
In total, Rayan will have spent more than 100 hours underground. The well was narrow, the ground slippery. No one could go down, at the risk of causing rockfalls and a collapse. Evacuated by the rescuers in an ambulance around 9:45 pm, the little boy succumbed to his injuries.
Rayan’s parents had a telephone interview with King Mohammed VI, who expressed his condolences to them. He assured them of his unconditional support and prayed that Rayan find peace with God.
