Tragic Well Rescue: Parents of Moroccan Boy Rayan Expecting New Baby

The mother of Rayan, the 5-year-old boy who accidentally fell into a well in Ighrane (Chefchaouen) and died on Saturday, is five months pregnant, announced her husband and the boy’s father.
Rayan’s father, Khalid Agoram, said in a television interview with local media that his wife, Wassima, is five months pregnant. The parents of the little boy were present throughout the rescue operation that lasted five days.

Accidentally fallen on February 1 into a dry and narrow well 32 meters deep, near his family’s residence in Ighrane, Rayan was finally extracted on Saturday by the rescuers who dug a parallel hole to the well using bulldozers, and then a horizontal breach by hand, for fear of a collapse, before reaching the child’s position in the well.

Unfortunately, Rayan did not survive. His lifeless body was transported to the military hospital in Rabat for the purposes of the autopsy to determine the cause of death. The royal cabinet announced the sad news a few hours later.

Little Rayan was buried on Monday in a cemetery near Ighrane, his native village, after the funeral prayer led by an imam, in the presence of the boy’s family members and several hundred people.
