Moroccan Couple Welcomes New Baby a Year After Tragic Loss of Son Rayan in Well Accident

The parents of Rayan, a 5-year-old boy, who died in February 2022 after accidentally falling into a well near his home in Chefchaouen, announce good news.
Rayan’s parents are finding the joy of being parents again. "Yesterday was the anniversary of Rayan’s tragedy and today we had a child. God takes and God gives," Soumia Khachich declared to Chouf TV. On Thursday, Rayan’s mother gave birth to a newborn in a maternity hospital in Tetouan, in northern Morocco.
The 5-year-old boy had accidentally fallen, on February 1, 2022, into a dried-up 32-meter-deep, narrow and difficult-to-access well, dug near the family residence in the village of Ighrane, in the province of Chefchaouen, in northern Morocco. After five days of efforts, the rescuers managed to drill a huge crevice in depth and then a horizontal tunnel to save the boy. Unfortunately, little Rayan did not survive. His death moved the whole world.
The newborn will not be named Rayan. "Rayan is dead, may God have his soul, I cannot give this name to the newborn," the father explained. The baby is named Shajid.
