Homeless in Tangier Struggle as Morocco’s Cold Snap Intensifies

The recent drop in temperature in Morocco has exacerbated the suffering of the homeless, still very numerous in the country. In Tangier, some of them are calling for help.
The homeless in Tangier, scattered between public squares, cemeteries and alleys, face the freezing nights with few means to protect themselves, reports the local site Tanja24. A man, who lost his wife and children in a tragic accident, has been living on the street for more than a decade. He recounts his daily struggle against the cold, in particular the need to walk all night to keep warm. The situation of this man is unfortunately not unique.
Some homeless people are lucky to find shelter in structures managed by civil society associations. However, these shelters, faced with a lack of resources and space, cannot meet all the demands. An association activist is moved by this precarious situation, calling for support from the authorities and charitable organizations to improve the living conditions of the homeless, especially in winter.
Faced with this crisis, the homeless are calling on local authorities, charitable associations and Moroccan citizens for help. They are asking for donations of clothes, food or money to alleviate their suffering.
The same source recalls that an official report reveals that the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region is one of the most affected by this phenomenon, with 14% of the country’s homeless population.
