Homeless Moroccan Man Loses Legs in Tragic Metro Accident While Fleeing Police

Mohamed, a 26-year-old Moroccan homeless man, sees his life turned upside down overnight due to a terrible accident. While fleeing a police check, he lost his legs under a metro.
Mohamed was the victim of a terrible accident on October 30, 2022. That day, he remembers that he was sleeping in the Yser district in Brussels when the police came to check him. Panic seized his body. The 26-year-old young man fled. "In his flight, he found himself on the metro tracks as a train was arriving at the platform. Mohamed could not escape it and his flight ended tragically under the wagon around 2pm, on October 30, 2022," reports La Capitale.
When they arrived, the firefighters managed to save and extricate the one who has been living in Europe for about ten years. But this terrible accident will leave him with lifelong consequences. At the hospital, the doctors amputated both of his legs. He woke up after spending a month in a coma. He struggles to describe the exact circumstances of the accident. "He no longer remembers, he would like to know what happened, understand how his life was shattered," explains Hafida, a volunteer from the A.S.B.L. "L’entraide sans frontières", one of the three associations that are helping the young Moroccan.
Mohamed was discharged from the hospital on January 11. Now in a wheelchair, he needs care. "We have contacted all possible organizations and hospitals. Even the Samu social cannot take care of him. He is undocumented, he has too heavy sequelae, a history of drug use, his care is too expensive... Everyone goes their own way," laments Hafida. And she sighs: "They even offered to send him back to Morocco when he’s been gone for ten years and he’s trying to get back on his feet. We don’t know which door to knock on anymore..."
