Tragic Train Collision Claims Life of 17-Year-Old Scooter Rider in Maastricht

A terrible train accident cost the life of a 17-year-old young man of Moroccan origin on Saturday evening in Maastricht. Tarik El Yakoubi, a scooter rider, lost his life in this tragic incident that also injured another 17-year-old young man from Maastricht.
"Everyone is in shock and very sad," said a nephew of Tarik El Yakoubi to the newspaper Het Belang van Limburg.
According to his nephew, Tarik was a joyful, happy and helpful young man. He was athletic and had his whole future ahead of him. He was also a good student who attended the Pyxiscollege, Heilig Hart campus in Lanaken. His friends are also deeply shocked by this tragic loss.
The mayor of Lanaken, Marino Keulen, also expressed his sympathy to the family. "Apparently the boy still wanted to cross the level crossing for a train that was arriving, with all the terrible consequences that implies. The police are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident. It is a great tragedy and I would like, on behalf of the municipal council, to express my sincere condolences to the family."
The police are currently investigating to determine the exact circumstances of this tragic accident.
