Free Public Toilets Across Morocco

“(In Marrakech), more than 15 public toilets are now available in various public and tourist areas, including local markets, parks, gardens, parking lots and bus stations,” the minister explained, adding that the municipality plans to delegate the management of these facilities to the private sector through partnerships, in order to expand the public toilet network across the city.

Regarding Casablanca, Laftit announced that the first phase of a project to install 60 modern public toilets was completed in 2024. These toilets were installed in the city’s gardens, parks and popular squares, equitably across the 16 districts. Separate areas for men and women are planned in these toilets. Accessible facilities for people with reduced mobility are also planned, thereby ensuring coverage for all citizens. Access to these public toilets is free.

These sanitation facilities are part of integrated development and urban enhancement programs, as well as the city rehabilitation program for the 2020-2024 period. “A practical program is underway as part of liquid sanitation initiatives, aimed at providing modern and professional sanitary facilities at all beaches and tourist areas, in accordance with specifications drawn up in cooperation with the parties concerned,” the minister also stated. He further specified that municipalities are responsible for managing services related to sanitary facilities, in accordance with the powers assigned to them in the area of public health.
