Casablanca Council Tackles Public Toilet Shortage, Considers Advertising Plan

The Casablanca Municipal Council held the second session of the ordinary session of February 2025 this Monday. Several important points related to the development of the urban framework, including the issue of public toilets, were on the agenda of this meeting.
The Council will examine, study and vote on a text on the opening price of the temporary occupation of the municipal public domain for commercial advertising purposes, on the facades of public toilets. The elected officials will also examine the draft specifications defining the conditions and procedures for this temporary occupation.
Casablanca residents and tourists are confronted on a daily basis with the lack of functional public toilets. For several months, the municipality has installed public toilets at several strategic points in different districts. Unfortunately, most of these facilities have not been put into service, which creates prejudice to citizens and foreigners, especially the elderly and the sick.
The lack of connection of these toilets to the sewerage network, as well as difficulties related to maintenance and management costs, would explain this delay in the commissioning of these toilets, the installation of which required an investment of 11.5 million dirhams, according to Nabila Rmili, the mayor of Casablanca.
Access to these toilets will be completely free, assured the city’s mayor in a recent statement, denying rumors of a paid access. Rmili added that the management of these toilets will be entrusted to the Casa Environnement company. The commissioning of these public toilets remains a challenge for the municipality, a few months before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled in Morocco. The objective is to keep the city clean and restore its image internationally.
