Casablanca’s Multimillion-Dirham Public Toilets Remain Closed, Sparking Frustration

Casablancans are angry. And for good reason, the public toilets installed at various strategic locations in the city are still not operational.
While they have been installed in Anfa, Bernoussi, Sidi Othmane, and El Fida Derb Sultan, among others, these public toilets have remained closed, preventing their use by the inhabitants of the economic capital of the kingdom as well as tourists. The latter have expressed their discontent at this situation observed a few months before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The municipal council invested 11.5 million dirhams for the installation of 60 public toilets in the city, a project carried out under the supervision of the Local Development Company Casa Environnement. But once these infrastructures were installed, they were not put into service, arousing anger and astonishment among Casablancans about this delay.
The inhabitants of the city wonder when these public toilets, intended to contribute to the embellishment of the city, will be opened to the public. "Who is responsible for this delay? If there are technical or administrative problems, they must be explained to the public," questioned an Internet user. Others called for better project management and compliance with deadlines.
