FIFA Snubs World Cup Semifinalist Coach Regragui for ’The Best’ Award Shortlist

The three finalists for the "The Best" award for best coach have been revealed by FIFA. Two notable absences: Walid Regragui of Morocco and Didier Deschamps of France.
Many expected to see on the list Walid Regragui whose record in 2022 has been most impressive. This is what allowed him to be elected African coach of the year and third best national coach in the world in 2022. But FIFA has selected Argentine Lionel Scaloni, winner of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Italian Carlo Ancelotti, winner of the Champions League with Real Madrid, and the Spanish coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola.
Among the women, there is the Frenchwoman Sonia Bompastor, winner of the Women’s Champions League with Lyon, Pia Sundhage, coach of Brazil, and Sarina Wiegman, European champion in 2022 with England. The list of nominees for the awards for best players and players, as well as that of the Puskas for the most beautiful goal, will be known on Friday. In addition to the jury that will look at the list of selected personalities, the public is invited to vote on the fifa.com website. The FIFA awards ceremony is scheduled for February 27 in Paris.
