DH180 million to transform access routes to Casablanca airport in seven months

The project appears in tender No. 26T050/PLGV launched by the National Railway Office. The Moroccan Public Procurement Portal officially values the operation at 216 million dirhams including tax, or 180 million dirhams excluding tax.

The contract covers the studies and civil engineering works for structures that must cross provincial road RP3038, as well as several structures along the Bouskoura wadi, in the provinces of Casablanca and Nouaceur. Companies have until September 24, 2026, to submit their bids.

A significant part of the work will be carried out in the immediate vicinity of Mohammed-V Airport. Two new railway bridges are notably planned to cross RP3038: one will be intended for the future high-speed line and the other for the conventional railway line.

This work forms part of the extensive project for the Kénitra-Marrakech LGV, which notably passes through Bouskoura, Nouaceur and the Mohammed-V Airport area. The ONCF explains that this new 430-kilometre line is one of the main components of its 96-billion-dirham railway program.

However, the project does not concern the train alone. RP3038, which serves the airport area, is also to be redeveloped. The project includes widening it, creating a roundabout and developing new access routes.

Seven hydraulic structures are also planned along the platform of the conventional railway line, notably to allow it to cross the Bouskoura wadi.

A project to be carried out without cutting off access

The schedule is particularly tight. The contract specifications provide for seven months to complete the operation, including one month set aside for preparing the construction site.

The challenge will be to carry out this work in an area where road traffic, existing railway services and construction of the future LGV intersect. The ONCF had already warned that the major works undertaken between Mohammedia and Nouaceur would require several construction phases, with interventions that could be carried out at night in order to maintain traffic flows. Ultimately, the Office plans six railway tracks on this route: two for high speed, two for commuter trains and two for other trains.

The new contract thus complements the investments already undertaken around the airport. The region has been working for several years to strengthen road links between Bouskoura and Casablanca airport, while rail is to play a much greater role in travel to the airport complex.

This transformation must also prepare for the arrival of a new multimodal station at Mohammed-V. The project provides for bringing the TGV, regional trains and road transport together in the same hub. Ultimately, a traveler arriving in Casablanca will thus be able to access the high-speed network directly without having to pass through a city-center station.

With this new 180-million-dirham contract, it is therefore no longer only the airport and its terminals that are being transformed: the roads, railway tracks and structures providing access to them are now part of the same vast project.
