Morocco Begins Construction on $14 Million High-Speed Rail Line from Kenitra to Marrakech

The high-speed rail project connecting Kenitra to Marrakech has entered its active phase. The National Railway Office (ONCF) has just awarded six companies the work of clearing and preparing the route of the line, at a cost of around 141 million dirhams.
The work is divided into five lots. The first concerns the Sidi Yahya - Kenitra-Rabat Agdal section. The second runs from Rabat Agdal to Bouskoura via Ain Atiq, Skhirat, Zenata, Faculté de Mohammedia, Ain Sebaa, Casablanca Port, Casablanca Voyageurs. The company awarded this lot will also carry out the Benslimane branch.
The third lot takes into account Bouskoura, Nouaceur, Mohammed V Airport, the connection to Berrechid and the bypass of Casablanca. The Berrechid-Rahamna section constitutes lot 4 and the one connecting Rahamna to Marrakech forms lot 5. The work will last 14 months.
To recall, the ONCF had launched a call for tenders for the selection of companies to carry out the civil engineering works of the future Kenitra-Marrakech TGV. The maximum speed on this line will be 350 km/h. The Al-Boraq passenger trains will be able to run at a commercial speed of 320 km/h and the high-performance trains at a commercial speed of 220 km/h between Sidi Yahya and the Rabat tunnel, then between Ain Atiq and Zenata.
