Casablanca Airport: the 12 billion dirham giant terminal project is officially launched
The National Airports Office (ONDA) has officially launched the construction process of the future large terminal of Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca. A call for tenders has just been published for this infrastructure project, one of the largest ever undertaken in Morocco, which aims to transform the platform into a major international air hub.
The estimated amount of the work is 10 billion dirhams excluding taxes, or 12 billion dirhams including taxes. The project plans to build a new HUB terminal with an area of about 600,000 square meters, designed to initially accommodate 20 million passengers per year, with an expandable capacity to 30 million. This terminal, which will have an "H" shape, will be directly connected to the Tangier-Marrakech high-speed line and will incorporate advanced technologies for flow management.
A 40-month construction site focused on modernity
The call for tenders, which has already attracted the interest of about twenty Moroccan, Chinese and Turkish companies during the pre-selection phase, sets a completion deadline of 40 months. It covers all the major building trades, with the exception of aeronautical infrastructure such as the new runway and the new control tower, which will be the subject of separate tenders.
For this construction site, ONDA has opted for a modular and systematic construction method, favoring prefabrication and rapid assembly. This approach aims to reduce waste, strengthen safety and guarantee architectural quality. This project is expected to generate significant economic benefits, particularly in terms of job creation and mobilization of local construction sectors, and is part of ONDA’s "Airports 2030" strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of the Kingdom’s airports.
