A Moroccan company will build the Casablanca airport for 12 billion dirhams
The race for the construction of the new terminal of the Casablanca airport seems to be coming to an end. Following the opening of the technical and administrative bids on Tuesday, the Moroccan consortium formed by the giants SGTM and TGCC is the only candidate still in the running for this market estimated at more than 12 billion dirhams.
The National Airports Office (ONDA) proceeded on Tuesday, December 16, to open the files relating to this major project. According to official data, the national SGTM-TGCC group remains the sole bidder after the examination of the technical and administrative offers, notably outpacing the Turkish group Kalyon Insaat which was also in the running.
The focus is now on the financial offer. While ONDA had set the estimated cost of the services at 12 billion dirhams, the proposal of the Moroccan consortium amounts to 12.87 billion dirhams. This amount covers the realization of a major infrastructure intended to transform the air hub of the metropolis.
This outcome comes after an intense pre-selection phase launched last May. The call for expressions of interest had initially attracted at least 28 companies, including a strong Chinese delegation (14 companies), as well as Spanish, Egyptian and French groups. On the Moroccan side, Sogea-Maroc and Jet Contractors had also expressed interest, but it is ultimately the SGTM-TGCC alliance that finds itself alone in the final phase.
The future terminal, designed in the shape of an "H" on an area of 600,000 m², will have to accommodate 20 million passengers per year, with a possible extension to 30 million. The project includes a direct connection to the future high-speed line (LGV) Tangier-Marrakech, as well as the construction of a new runway and a control tower. The deadline for the work is set at 40 months, in line with the "Airports 2030" strategy to modernize the infrastructure of the Kingdom.
