Royal Air Maroc 2037: the 200-aircraft plan is taking shape, deliveries begin in 2028
Royal Air Maroc has detailed the schedule of its ambitious fleet expansion plan, which aims to transform the company into a major global player by 2037. The national carrier will begin receiving the first aircraft from this acquisition program starting in 2028.
The CEO of the company, Abdelhamid Addou, confirmed to the Reuters agency that the tender launched in April 2024 is in the process of being finalized. This project, one of the largest ever undertaken by RAM, covers a maximum of 200 aircraft. The company is currently evaluating the offers submitted by the manufacturers Boeing, Airbus and Embraer.
According to the executive, the order will be composed of nearly a quarter of wide-body aircraft, intended to support RAM’s intercontinental strategy. The rest will be medium-haul aircraft. Pending these deliveries, which will be spread out until 2037 at an average rate of fifteen aircraft per year, the company plans to lease up to thirteen additional aircraft each year to meet immediate demand.
A strategy aligned with the expansion of Casablanca airport
This increase in the airline fleet is part of another large-scale project led by the National Airports Office (ONDA). ONDA has also launched a tender for the construction of a new terminal in Casablanca.
The objective of this new terminal is to increase the country’s passenger capacity from 10.5 million to 35 million by 2029. These parallel projects reflect Morocco’s desire to consolidate Casablanca’s role as a major hub between Africa, Europe and the Americas, and to adapt to the overall growth in air traffic.
