Casablanca Restaurants Face Crackdown for COVID-19 Rule Violations
Sunday 30 August 2020, by
On the orders of Abdellatif Hammouchi, director of the DGST-DGSN hub, a "clean hands" operation is underway to enforce the law on all Casablanca restaurants that trample on measures to prevent Covid-19.
This operation was launched following a number of findings made in several restaurants in Casablanca. These include non-compliance with the closing time set at 11 p.m., physical distancing measures, wearing masks, and music played at full volume like in a nightclub... The Tahiti Beach complex, the La Côte hotel, the Le Cabestan restaurant and other upscale addresses in the economic capital are affected by this operation.
"Abdellatif Hammouchi has given his orders to enforce the law on all restaurants they consider untouchable or located in the Sidi Moumen district. (...) The 300 dirham fine will be applied both in Sidi Moumen and in Aïn Diab. We will fine the wealthy who consider themselves out of reach as well as the underprivileged populations of Sidi Moumen," a source told Le360.
