Casablanca Cracks Down: Over 20 Restaurants Face Closure for COVID Violations

For non-compliance with the health measures in force in these times of epidemic and on the decision of the Casablanca authorities, dozens of restaurants are subject to sanctions. These range from suspension for a few months, to the permanent withdrawal of the alcohol license.
The commission in charge of granting or withdrawing alcohol licenses has struck hard. More than twenty restaurants (from the most modest to the most prestigious) have been affected. While some have had their alcohol license permanently revoked, others have gotten away with a suspension of activity for periods of up to 4 or even 6 months, reports L’Economiste.
Thus, at least 4 restaurants would be the subject of a permanent withdrawal of their alcohol license: Casa José (Gauthier and Houphouët Boigny) and the Tahiti pool restaurants. The Sky Bar (Corniche) would have received 6 months of suspension and the Cabestan 4 months. The Cascade restaurant (Corniche) is suspended for 72 hours.
This operation follows the seizure by the DGSN of large quantities of counterfeit alcohol in several cities (Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Beni Mellal, Khouribga, Meknes, Tangier...).
This adds to the misery of professionals in this sector who would have preferred financial penalties instead of the withdrawal of the license or even the closure.
