Casablanca Crackdown: 117 Restaurants Closed for Health Violations

The "Clean Hands" operation led by the services of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has just pinpointed four other offenders of the provisions of the state of health emergency in the city of Casablanca. Thus, no less than 117 restaurants in the metropolis have been closed since the launch of this operation.

These restaurants are closed precisely for non-compliance with social distancing, the type of activity and because they employed women without authorization, says Assabah, specifying that it is in this case a hotel located on Mohammed V Avenue, with the withdrawal of authorization for the next six months. Two restaurants located in Ain Diab have also had their permits revoked for a period of one month. While the fourth, located on Hassan Souktani Avenue, will have to wait two months before resuming its activity.

Already, the competent authorities in Rabat are in talks with the professional delegates of the restaurateurs, with a view to easing the sanctions, says the daily, which holds from concordant sources that the decision has been made to relax the procedures to allow women to work in restaurants serving alcohol. Thus, from now on, an employer’s request, a clean criminal record and a photocopy of the national identity card are sufficient.

In addition, the delegates of professional associations denounce the refusal of the Wali of Rabat to open the dialogue. Yet, they lament, it is the wilaya that authorizes and prohibits.
