Moroccan Restaurant Owners Slam Mask Fines for Diners in Casablanca

The president of the National Federation of Restaurateurs is very upset with the local authorities. Khalid Abbadi finds it inappropriate that customers who do not have their protective mask within certain cafes and restaurants located in Casablanca are fined.
Restaurants and cafes are among the sectors that have been shaken by the ups and downs of the Covid-19 pandemic. Professionals are trying their best to get back on their feet, but it’s not a done deal when you know that the measures are being reinforced a little more every day. The latest is the fining of customers in several restaurants for not wearing a mask.
Khalid Abbadi believes that "restaurants must respect hygiene measures, physical distancing, provide hand sanitizer everywhere, and the staff must keep their mask on. But the customer cannot wear his mask all the time, especially when he is eating." He calls on the authorities to revise their copy so that citizens can afford these pleasures without fear or worry, reports L’Économiste.
Khalid Mouratib, who is a member of the national committee of cafes and restaurants, however, points out that after finishing eating, the customer is required to wear his mask during all his movements, under penalty of being fined. "The mask, you have to keep it at hand, to show it in case it is requested, or lower it to the level of the chin so that it is visible.
The authorities are strict on the scrupulous respect of preventive measures in order to curb the cases of contamination. Last Saturday, several restaurants, cafes and tourist complexes located in Aïn Diab were temporarily closed, for non-compliance with health measures, the same source said.
