Bayern’s Mazraoui Recovering from Post-COVID Heart Complication, Return Date Uncertain

On the eve of the Bundesliga resumption, Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke about the health status of Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui, stating that he is on the road to recovery. However, no date has been given for his return to the pitch.
The Moroccan full-back is suffering from complications after contracting Covid-19 during the last World Cup. He had also been diagnosed with pericarditis, which prevented him from resuming competition. On Wednesday, the Bavarians’ coach gave reassuring news about the player.
"I haven’t heard anything new from our internal doctor, but at least it hasn’t gotten worse. It’s not really better either, so I can’t count on a quick return. I think that’s reasonable too. It’s a heart problem that only affects the pericardium, but generally we don’t want to take any risks. But the peak of the illness was already over," he said at a press conference on the eve of the match against Leipzig, counting for the 16th day of the championship. And he added: "even if he cannot resume training immediately, Mazraoui is on the road to recovery."
