US Applauds Historic Visit of Israeli Foreign Minister to Morocco

On the occasion of the visit to Morocco of the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yair Lapid, the US State Department "warmly congratulated" on Wednesday Morocco and Israel, "two close partners" of the United States.

During a press briefing on the occasion of the reopening of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat, Ned Price, the State Department spokesman, welcomed the "historic" visit of a senior Israeli official, reports the MAP.

The visit of Foreign Minister Lapid, the first trip to Morocco by an Israeli Foreign Minister since the announcement of the restoration of full diplomatic relations between the State of Israel and the Kingdom of Morocco, and the reopening of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat are important for Israel, Morocco and the region more broadly, he said.

The United States will continue to work with Israel and Morocco to strengthen all aspects of our partnerships and prepare a more peaceful, safer and more prosperous future for all the peoples of the Middle East, Ned Price concluded.

In a statement, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken hailed Yaïr Lapid’s visit, stating that the United States, the architects under Donald Trump of the Israeli-Moroccan rapprochement, would continue to work with the two countries to "create a more peaceful, safe and prosperous future for all the peoples of the Middle East".
