Weather alert: waves up to 7 meters expected on the Moroccan coasts

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a maritime alert bulletin warning of a significant deterioration of sea conditions from the afternoon of Wednesday, January 28. A very rough sea, characterized by powerful and dangerous waves, is expected along the entire Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of the Kingdom.

On the Atlantic facade, between Tangier and Agadir, the swell coming from the west to the northwest could reach heights between 6 and 7 meters. The Mediterranean coastline will also be affected with waves expected between 3 and 4.5 meters from Al Hoceima to Saïdia, while the Strait of Gibraltar will record troughs ranging from 4 to 5 meters. These phenomena are expected to reach their maximum intensity during the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

This maritime agitation will be accompanied by a high tide episode, with levels between 3 and 3.5 meters on the Atlantic coasts on Wednesday and Thursday. At the same time, strong westerly to southwesterly wind gusts will blow from Tangier to Safi as well as on the strait and the Mediterranean area. According to the forecasts of the DGM, a gradual return to normal and an improvement of the situation are expected from Friday.
