Weather alert in the strait: The port of Tarifa closed, Tanger Med remains accessible

The maritime links between the port of Tarifa and the city of Tanger have been suspended this Wednesday, January 21 from 10:00 am, due to the unfavorable weather conditions caused by the passage of the storm "Harry" in the Strait of Gibraltar.

This interruption, decided as a safety measure, mainly affects the services provided by the companies Balearia and Africa Morocco Link, in accordance with the directives of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras.

The atmospheric instability, characterized by heavy swell and intense precipitation, has forced carriers to cancel the majority of rotations departing from Tarifa. While the maintenance of the Balearia company’s departures scheduled at 11:00 am and 5:00 pm remains under consideration for the time being, any operation remains strictly conditional on the evolution of the weather at the time of departure.

The port authorities maintain heightened vigilance and advise users to check the status of the lines before any travel, given the possibility of further cancellations during the day.

In parallel to these disruptions, the links operated from the port of Algeciras to Ceuta and Tanger Med continue normally without any major incident to report. This situation, however, coincides with the activation of a yellow alert for rain by the National Meteorological Agency in the area of the strait.
