Suspension of maritime traffic between the ports of Tanger Ville and Tarifa, departures cancelled

The maritime links between the Spanish port of Tarifa and Tanger Ville have been interrupted since Thursday at 6:00 pm. This safety measure affects all scheduled departures for the end of the day and should continue, as the first crossing scheduled for Friday morning has already been cancelled, according to information provided by the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras. The resumption of service remains subject to the lifting of weather warnings in the area.

Gusts of 70 km/h and rough sea

This paralysis of traffic is the direct consequence of the alerts issued by the Spanish National Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Several provinces of western Andalusia, including Cadiz, Huelva, Seville and Cordoba, have been placed on yellow alert due to rain, thunderstorms and wind gusts that could reach 70 kilometers per hour. Specific coastal warnings also concern the strait and the surrounding coastline.

The maritime forecasts for the area between Punta Camarinal and Punta Carnero announce easterly winds turning southerly, accompanied by a sea that should evolve from "rough" to "very rough". These conditions, coupled with showers reducing visibility, make port maneuvers and the crossing perilous on this very busy route.
