Storm in the Strait of Gibraltar: Tarifa-Tangier links suspended, maritime traffic disrupted
A strong wind storm has disrupted maritime traffic in the Strait of Gibraltar on Wednesday, October 29. The link between Tarifa and Tangier City is the most affected, with a complete paralysis of the service, while the departures from Algeciras are experiencing delays.
The most critical situation concerns the port of Tarifa, where navigation is considered impossible. The companies Baleària, Africa Morocco Link (AML) and FRS Iberia have announced the cancellation of all their crossings of the day to Tangier City. The southwest wind gusts and the strong swell exceed the operational limits, making the port of Tarifa, more exposed, inaccessible.
The lines from Algeciras maintained but disrupted
The activity is, however, maintained at the port of Algeciras, where the lines to Tanger Med and Ceuta continue to operate, although with disruptions. Delays have been reported on several ships, including the Poeta López Anglada of Baleària. The Tánger Express maintains its boarding operations but with increased caution, depending on the evolution of the weather.
Faced with this situation, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) advises all travelers to contact their respective shipping companies to check the status of their crossing before traveling to the terminals.
