Weather alert: snow, rain and strong winds expected in Morocco
The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a level orange alert bulletin. Snowfall, heavy thunderstorms and gusts of wind are expected in several provinces of the Kingdom, from this Sunday until Wednesday.
Significant snowfall, between 20 and 40 cm, is expected above 1,500 meters of altitude from Sunday noon to Monday evening. It will mainly affect the provinces of Midelt, Azilal, Ifrane and Boulemane. Smaller accumulations (5 to 15 cm) are also expected in areas like Al Hoceima and Ouarzazate. A second period of snow (10 to 30 cm) is announced from Tuesday to Wednesday morning on the reliefs.
According to DGM data, the snow cover already extended over more than 54,000 km² of the territory on December 17.
Regarding rainfall, heavy precipitation, sometimes thunderstorms, is expected until Monday morning. Accumulations will reach 35 to 60 mm in the north (Tangier, Tetouan, Kenitra) and 25 to 35 mm in cities like Rabat, Fez and Meknes.
Finally, strong gusts of wind, ranging from 75 to 85 km/h, will hit the south and southeast of the country from Sunday evening to Monday evening, particularly the provinces of Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Midelt and Guelmim.
