New weather alert in Morocco

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) issued an orange alert on Friday forecasting significant rainfall and wind gusts reaching 90 km/h in several Moroccan provinces until Saturday noon.

The north of the country is preparing for particularly deteriorating weather conditions. According to the latest DGM bulletin, torrential showers, ranging between 40 and 60 mm, are expected until Saturday at dawn. This vigilance mainly concerns the provinces of Larache, Al Hoceima, Taounate, Taza and Chefchaouen. More moderate rainfall, from 20 to 40 mm, will also affect the areas of Moulay Yacoub, Ouezzane and Tétouan.

In addition to the rains, a episode of violent winds will sweep across a large part of the territory. The DGM forecasts gusts reaching 75 to 90 km/h, particularly threatening the Oriental, the Rif and the Atlas massifs. This wind alert will remain in effect until Saturday at 12:00 pm, impacting localities ranging from Oujda-Angad to Nador, passing through Midelt, Boulemane and Ouarzazate.
