Violent Arrest in Rabat Sparks Investigation After Officer Injured

A video circulating on social media recounts a turbulent police intervention in Rabat, involving a motorcycle officer and a two-wheeler driver. The scene, which shows an arrest that quickly escalated, has sparked strong reactions on social media.
The Rabat police headquarters quickly reacted in a press release, indicating that a judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office. The driver in question was taken into custody, suspected of having assaulted a police officer on duty, causing him injuries, including a broken tooth. A second person is also involved in the investigation, suspected of complicity and illegal technical modifications to a vehicle.
According to the initial findings of the investigation, the driver visible in the video would have refused to submit to a traffic check, being suspected of having tampered with his vehicle. The matter took another turn with the involvement of a second motorcyclist, presented as a "colleague" by the first, whom he would have tried to remove from a possible fine. The exchange would then have turned into a physical altercation. A witness filmed part of the scene with his mobile phone.
Entrusted to the regional judicial police service of Rabat by the prosecutor’s office, the investigation aims to determine the precise circumstances of this incident. Particular attention is paid to the service weapon displayed by the police officer. The initial investigations suggest that this was an accidental event, the weapon having fallen to the ground following the resistance and violence exerted on the agent.
