Morocco: a driver killed after forcing a police checkpoint

A man died on Thursday, November 14 in Goulmima after forcing a police checkpoint. In the evening, the security forces had set up a traffic control on the road leading to Assoul, towards Rich.
This checkpoint followed information transmitted by the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance concerning a possible drug trafficking operation.
While the police were checking the vehicles, the driver of a car refused to comply. He rushed at full speed towards the checkpoint, forcing an officer to use his service weapon. Hit by a bullet, the driver nevertheless continued his route for a certain distance before leaving the road. He died from his injuries.
His passenger, who was in an advanced state of drunkenness, was arrested by the security forces. The initial findings made on the spot did not make it possible to find any drugs in the vehicle. The body of the driver was transported to the hospital for an autopsy.
An investigation was opened by the regional brigade of the judicial police of Fez in order to shed light on the exact circumstances of the tragedy and to determine the reasons that led the driver to force the checkpoint.
