USFP Party Announces Move to Opposition in Moroccan Parliament

It’s official. The Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), the party of the rose, will be on the opposition side during the next legislature.
This decision was made on Tuesday, at the end of an emergency meeting of the party’s steering council. A meeting during which the First Secretary, Driss Lachgar, presented the conclusions of his consultations with the designated Head of Government, including his vision regarding the party’s position in the next stage.
In a statement reported by the MAP, the office of the left-wing formation indicated that this decision to shift to the opposition is justified in the sense that the national interest and that of the party, as well as the protection of the expectations of the voters who placed their trust in this political formation, require that the USFP join the opposition.
And to explain that "in line with our political and intellectual clarity [...], we announce today that the USFP decides, in all responsibility, to defend its choices and commitments from its place within the institutional and societal opposition".
