Islamist PJD Party Shifts to Opposition Role After Electoral Defeat in Morocco

After the electoral rout of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), the national council is meeting in an extraordinary session tomorrow Saturday, September 18. The Lamp party will shift to the opposition.
"We were accused of playing the role of the opposition, while we were in power, because of the work we have done and the commissions of inquiry we have chaired. Now that we are part of the opposition, we can expect much more, especially since we have a good knowledge of many files," said Moustapha Al Ibrahimi, former president of a PJD parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, to SNRT News.
According to him, the Islamist party will not be divided as some wish. On the contrary, the PJD will remain united around a "solid core" and attached to "its organization and its internal democratic processes" which make it "a formation that cannot be easily eliminated", assures Moustapha Al Ibrahimi, adding that the party has achieved respectable results in several areas and that recent events should not push the party to change its orientation and its principles.
"It is possible to change the party’s leaders because of the way they have managed this stage. Nevertheless, the party’s mandate at the head of the government took place in a different context," he specifies, adding that the new orientations of the party will be defined at the next extraordinary congress scheduled for December.
