Morocco’s Akhannouch Nears Completion of New Government Formation

The negotiations for the formation of the new government are continuing. After meeting with almost all the heads of political parties, the designated Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, promises the new executive soon.
During the consultations for the formation of the new government, the first round of which ended on September 15, 2021, several political parties presented their vision. Absent, the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) which "apologized, just like the Secretary General of the Unified Socialist Party (PSU), Nabila Mounib, who informed me that she will join the ranks of the opposition," said Aziz Akhennouch.
The Head of Government also met with the Secretary General of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), Abdellatif Ouahbi, the Secretary General of the Istiqlal Party (PI), Nizar Baraka, the First Secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), Driss Lachguar, the Secretary General of the Popular Movement (MP), M’hand Laenser, the Secretary General of the Constitutional Union (UC), Mohamed Sajid. He then met with the Secretary General of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, the Secretary General of the Democratic and Social Movement (MDS), Abdessamad Archane, the Secretary General of the Front of Democratic Forces (FFD), Mustapha Benali and the coordinator of the Left-Wing Federation Alliance, Abdeslam Laâziz.
For the record, the National Rally of Independents (RNI) party won the September 8 elections with 102 seats, followed by the PAM with 86 seats, the PI with 81 seats, the USFP with 35 seats, the MP with 29 seats, the PPS with 21 seats, the UC with 18 seats and the PJD with 13 seats. The remaining 12 seats were shared by the other parties.
