Ukraine Embassy in Morocco Debunks Rumors of Moroccan Volunteers Joining Resistance

For the past few days, rumors have been circulating about Moroccans expressing a desire to join the resistance in Ukraine against Russian military forces. A hoax according to a source at the Ukrainian Embassy in Rabat.

According to Hespress, there is a prerequisite before any enlistment in the Ukrainian resistance against Russian forces. "Any potential Moroccan citizens wishing to fight with the Ukrainian forces must first meet a number of conditions, the most important of which is the availability of a Schengen visa that would allow them to first set foot on European soil, and then cross the Schengen area to the border with Ukraine," explained the source at the Ukrainian Embassy in Rabat.

She specified that "foreigners wishing to participate in the ongoing military operations in Ukraine are free to do so" and that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had clearly emphasized this at the very beginning of the crisis, assuring that the doors and borders would be open without the obligation of an entry visa to Ukraine.

Thus, to dispel any misunderstanding, the embassy indicates that it has not received "any request or other requests from Moroccans wishing to go to fight on Ukrainian territory." And even if that were the case, it considers that the complexity of the procedure can be a source of discouragement.
